You have the power!
“It just hasn’t happened for me.” “The right one hasn’t come along.” “Dating is so complicated these days.” “It is too much work.” “God hasn’t shown me my spouse yet.”
I have heard all the excuses (and made some of them too) for still being single at a late age. Sometimes thinking about it can bring feelings of powerlessness. What are we supposed to do about it? Can we really change the fact that we have not met anyone to spend the rest of our lives with? It seems out of our hands.
But there are a few things we can do to regain power and control. First, we can pray and trust that God is the ultimate one in control and we have nothing to be ashamed of or worried about so long as we are following Jesus. This may seem like we are accepting powerlessness, but it actually brings us stability knowing the One who loves us most is at work “behind the scenes.”
Second, we can step out there and meet potential dates. Whether it is online dating apps or simply talking to people at places we frequent (coffee shops, gyms, grocery stores, etc.). Set a goal of how many potential dates you meet each week/month/year and work hard to meet it. We do have the power to make something happen related to relationships. No, we can not control the other person’s response, but circling back around to the first step, we will choose to believe God for the good that will come in the future.
Don’t give up. Take control of your singleness.
