Pain is Only Temporary

My first major breakup was a disaster. I won’t go into details. All I will say is that I cried on a friend’s shoulder, slept on the couch and woke up the next morning with a massive headache. It was not pretty. I was devastated. I had fallen hard for this man. But as quickly as it had begun, it had ended. We only dated six weeks but I was all in and ready to make it a lifetime.

I had real difficulty letting go. For weeks after the breakup, I communicated with him - wanting to understand more of why it didn’t work out; if there was anything I could do to change it; and why in the world did I hurt so badly.

During one of the conversations with my ex I remember him telling me some truth. He told me that the pain I felt was only temporary and basically, I would eventually feel better. He knew me and knew that I had not had very many heartaches. In fact, he was my first real relationship. Because of his experience, he knew something that I had not yet realized. The pain does lessen over time and you learn to move on.
