First Pitch

I now have a pet of my very own. Allow me to introduce Pitch, my pet hermit crab!

Pitch is small, but very cute.

He is a very low maintenance pet. Pitch enjoys spending most of his time in his habitat and eats things like raisins and carrot peel.

I aquired him yesterday at the
Cambridge River Festival from The Crab Island booth. When I first saw him it was a must that I take him home. I think he is a wonderful addition to my life, so let's hope that he sticks around for a long time.

Comments

  1. Pitch appears to resemble a baseball.

  2. I really don't think that these guys realize that butterflies do leave. They are not a constant feeling and it requires work to keep them.

  3. The previous two comments are both very observant.
Pitch's shell is painted to resemble a baseball, yet I will not be throwing him around like one!
And as far as "butterfly feelings" go, maybe they are worth all the work it takes to keep them. Too bad they are given up on so easily at times.

  4. So, just to clarify, Pitch is an actual crab, not a fake crab? I think it's an important distinction.

p.s. What is the life expectancy of an actual crab?

  5. Yes, very important distinction, Pitch is a real, live hermit crab! He crawls around in my hands and buries himself in the sand. Lots of people own land crabs as pets. I've read that pet crabs can live up to 7-10 years! As they grow they find new, larger shells to move into. It's pretty interesting.
