The Road

My trip to New England last weekend took me through some of the most beautiful countryside in America. I drove from Gettysburg, PA up to Albany, NY. It was amazing! The rolling mountains covered with tall, green trees glowed in the fading late afternoon sun. As the sunset, I drove northeastward, catching glimpses of the beauty in my mirrors and at times, risking a glance as I turned my head to get an eye full of colorful sky. It was one of the most inspiring sites I have seen in quite sometime.
Driving alone on the still, quiet highway, it was as if God has painted the picture in that moment, just for me. The fresh air that filled the car with my windows down illustrated the fresh filling of the Spirit that I need to sustain me during my transition. The road curved around, through the mountain paths, allowing me to see just enough of where I have come from and the right amount of the road ahead. The towns I passed were nestled in the valleys, where most of my life is lived. I could count the number of steeples in each village, towering over the houses and businesses, representing hope, peace and the love of God.
The journey became long and I reached a point where I simply wanted to arrive at my destination. The night brought darkness and a chill in the air. But the image of the Pennsylvania countryside, evidence of a loving, faithful Creator, caused me to recognize the Lord's presence and acknowledge his grace in bringing me this far. My life belongs to Jesus. I will follow wherever he leads.
