Georgia Rain
"A rainy night in Georgia, a rainy night in Georgia
Lord, I believe it's rainin' all over the world.
I feel like it's rainin' all over the world." -Benton Brooks

The rain has followed me from Texas to Georgia. It has been rather wet and dreary both yesterday and today. I don't mind the rain. It's rather peaceful actually. I enjoy the rain much more here in the peach state than out west. It falls more gracefully upon the trees than the hard ground. The fact that I enjoy it here may have something to do with the fact that I am not required to go out in it as much. I have no classes to attend or work to travel to. I can enjoy the view out the window while curled up in my parents' living room.
I realized today that I have been gone from here for far too long. As I drove back to my parents' house this afternoon I took the long way home. I drove the curvy road that I use to drive each day on my way to and from work. The color of the trees caught my attention like never before. Each of them were a brilliant orange, or a cheerful yellow, or a lively red! If it weren't for the line of traffic behind me I would have driven a little slower and enjoyed the scenery a little longer. However, I did not want to be labeled a "Sunday driver" so I traveled past these trees with wide eyes to take in as much as I could. I wanted to take a picture of each one, but knew that a photo would not be able to capture the beauty of such colors, especially under the stress of a grey sky.
I miss Georgia, but I think it odd to be attached to a particular place. I would rather be attached to the people that live in a certain place. My days spent in GA are filled with trying to make connections with people who are close to me. I make many phone calls and leave it up to them to contact me. Some call and others forget. Each time the number of contacts made grows smaller. It is not that the people who do not call have forgotten me or do not value my friendship. It is simply that life has created distance between us and life has carried us along different paths. I treasure memories and try to let go of that person - some relationships are not meant to last forever.
It has been good to spend time with my parents. My dad has been off of work this week and my mom has been very hospitable. There are a few friends whom I have been able to contact. My friend, Christy invited me over to her house for lunch today. It was nice but way too short of a visit. I spent time with a challenging college student this evening. She both encouraged my heart and caused it pain as she shared her recent struggles. I hope to see and spend time with more friends and family members before the week ends and I fly back to TX.
I miss the people in Georgia. They are just as beautiful to me as the trees along the roadside. It is good to be home.
Wow! Another really good blog. Reading your entries challenge me as a self-professed writer and challenge me to live a more observant life.
