A Challenging Question
"How is it that you're still single?" "Why have you never gotten married?" These are challenging questions to answer. I know they are asked with genuine curiosity but the answers are complicated.
I'm not sure why I haven't found someone that I want to commit spending the rest of my life with. The best answer involves the sovereignty of God. I am still single because God wants me to be period of course a part of me believes that this explanation is an excuse - a cop out. I believe that if I would have worked at finding someone sooner it would have happened. But I do believe that God is ultimately in control and I trust that if he wanted me to be married by now I would be.
So I'm curious. If you're still single in your 40s or 50s (never been married), I would love to hear your answer to "why?"

no, i'm not still single. i have been mayor married 54 years and was a pastor's wife for many years. one of my daughters didn't marry until she was almost 37. the honest answer to that question is that you haven't met the man for you yet. and honestly, you may not be ready for each other. if God's plan is for you to marry, the man He wants you to marry may not even be a Christian yet. have you thought about that? there are so many factors involved. you may not be ready for him/he may not be ready for you/you may not be ready to make the adjustments needed for your marriage to work in the way it needs to.
ReplyDeletelife has so many aspects to it. i have known many women who said they wished they had enjoyed their single years, but they were so worried about whether they were going to get married. this is the time to enjoy your independence/get training/travel with friends/ejoy ministry with friends in ways you won't be able to when you are involved with a family. in the process of doing those things, you will meet some great people/make some great friends and maybe even meet someone to share your life with. while you are busy doing those things, btw, i'm #17. i'm writing 17 posts b/c i'm taking weekend off:)
