Your Own Pace
The first time I drove in a snowstorm I went super slow. There were other drivers going faster and even a few carelessly driving over the speed limit. I assumed that they had more experience than me. This allowed them to go at a speed that they felt they could handle. Or perhaps they had a vehicle more equipped to maneuver the road conditions.
This is the way with so many experiences in life. The more practice you have and the more equipped, the more confident you are to move forward.
It is easy to judge others whose pace is either slower or faster than yours. I recently heard author Emily P. Freeman tell her listeners on her podcast, "Your pace is your pace." I am sure others have spoken similar words, but at that moment this phrase struck me.
It is easy for me to look around and notice how quickly things happen for others. Some seem to speed through life accumulating relationships, success, and wealth with ease.
Do you find this to be true also? For those who have health issues, I wonder if you think that everyone else is recovering faster. For those with career goals, do you notice others getting the projects and promotions before you? For those who are still single, how many times have you questioned why marriage has happened for them and not you?
Keep in mind that their pace is not your pace. Trust that God sets your pace and has not forgotten your goals and desires. It may seem like you're going so slow, and you question if you will ever get anywhere. Be patient with yourself. Your pace is your pace and there is no such thing as behind. Sometimes going slow is the best and safest thing to do. And perhaps your pace will pick up in time. God knows. You can trust that you will know too when that time comes.
