Restless Nights
Last night was the first night in a week and a half that I have fallen right to sleep when I laid my head on my pillow. My mind has raced with thoughts of all that I must do or situations that must be processed. It is tough to be stressed and feel a little out of control. At night, when all is quiet, my mind has space to wander and worry. The only thing I found to help me fall asleep is to turn on SportsCenter. Of course the other night when things were really bad and I found myself awake at 2:00am, two hours after I had turned of the lights, I was very disappointed when news of the NBA playoffs consumed ESPN. My only hope was to put in a movie. And what was my movie of choice? Field of Dreams, of course! With the relaxing thoughts of baseball in my mind, I drifted into dreamland.
So what has been going on in my life the past two weeks that had me feeling exhausted, yet unable to sleep? Lots of things! Mainly, a big transition in the apartment. All my roommates moved out Memorial Day weekend, I moved to an upstairs room, and three other ladies moved in at the end of the week. My room still looks like I moved in five hours ago, not five days ago! I like the room and will enjoy living with the new girls. But I will greatly miss the former roommates. Change is often difficult to handle.
This past Saturday, Young Life Cambridge hosted its first big event - a candlepin bowling tournament! With the help of my committee (two ladies especially), approximately 40 folks came out to support Young Life and enjoyed bowling for two hours, dinner, and took home a t-shirt and any raffle prizes they won. It was a lot of fun and well worth all the work that went into it. We made a little bit of cash and anticipate next year being bigger and better!
Other smaller things have stressed me lately, such as not having softball players for a team the church has paid a lot of money for, planning to attend a wedding in OK in July and visit friends in TX, spending time with my respite kid, and taking care of a puppy a few hours each day. I'm feeling the need to get away! If only the weather would cooperate. It has turned chilly and wet here in the Northeast. Hopes of going to the beach has been slim, but I have a feeling I'll get there soon! My mind depends on some rest and it will take me escaping this scenery to get some.
Good Night.
