Cute Kid

I had the joy of spending the morning with Brennan. His dad was out of town, his mom had a conference to attend, and his big sister was at school. Brennan is three years old, but if he was 33 I would be first in line to marry him. He helped me find a breakfast of a toasted bagel and butter, then as I ate, he sat with me and asked me politely what my many roommates were doing for the day. We watched a few episodes of Clifford the Big Red Dog, before beginning a wrestling match on the floor. Brennan loves to laugh and tells all kinds of great stories. During one of our many breaks (I needed to catch my breath), He asked if I was some day going to get married. When I said "yes" this bright-eyed little man said, "I'd marry you. You're pretty." I explained that he will have plenty of pretty girls to choose from when he gets older, but my heart was warmed by his sentiment.

Mid-morning we put a leash on Zoe and walked out into the sunshine and cool breeze. Brennan has recently learned to ride a two-wheel bike. He rode down to the park while I walked the dog behind him. I sat on the bench watching this little guy show off his skills. I gave him some challenges, such as staying between a line on the basketball court and the grass. He met each test with a grin and went as fast as he could each time he past me. The fun didn't end at the park; once back in his living room, we put on some music and had our own dance party. Brennan had some incredible moves and it was evident by his giant smile, that he enjoyed every moment dancing around the room either with or without me.

I hope one day that God blesses me with a little boy such as Brennan. He is sensitive and yet strong. His mom related a story to me of his caring nature. Several months ago when I was upset over a breakup, I spoke to Brandy on the phone about it. When she hung up, Brennan, who must have been listening, asked, "What's wrong with Sarah?" His mother simply explained that I was sad about something. The answer must have satisfied him, because he asked no other questions. However, young mind did not forget about it, for later that evening and throughout that week, Brennan prayed, "God, please help Sarah not be sad." Knowing that God hears the prayers of children, the story encouraged me greatly. How sweet and thoughtful! I pray for Brennan to continue to grow in wisdom and courage.

The morning faded into afternoon as we sat at McDonald's eating ice cream cones, telling Brennan's sister all the exciting activities we had packed into our morning. I walked them home and left when their neighbor showed up for the remaining hours until Brandy arrived home. It was a wonderful time babysitting, and I would spend another morning with Brennan any day!
