God's Provisions

"But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned before, but you lacked opportunity. Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. Nevertheless, you have done well to share with me in my affliction."
The Apostle Paul to the church in Philippi

I am following in Paul's footsteps by asking churches and individuals to give donations to the ministry I will have to teenagers in Cambridge, MA. It is a very humbling position to be in. Never would I have volunteered to receive contributions, but this is the direction that God is leading me. I anticipate days and nights of wondering what I am doing depending so much on people.

Experience has taught that people are not that reliable. We don't trust others easily. Most Americans at least, long to be independent and self-sufficient. Just try to pay for someone elses meal next time you go out to eat. Giving is just as hard as receiving, I suppose. The most giving people I know have very little resources but it is their heart that is so generous. The most grateful people I know are dependent on others for means of living. It is an interesting dynamic. I always prayed that God would make me more grateful. Perhaps raising support is his answer!

Caution: There will be many more posts related to financial and prayer support during this process of beginning a new ministry in a foreign community.

  1. I hear you...support raising is a blessing, but really tough at times, too. I hope your meeting went well today with Paul. We're eating breakfast with him tomorrow. See you soon!
