I wonder...
Maybe it was how cute I looked dressed in a short plaid wool skirt and tights with my new black coat.
Perhaps it was the crisp, cold air and the warm sun that shown all day in the bright blue sky and later created a magnificent sunset.
It could have been the realization that there are only two more days of class this semester.
It might have been the extra 30 minutes that I slept this morning after my alarm clock rang.
Maybe it was the time I spent sitting outside drinking my fresh brewed cup of coffee while preparing for class as rabid squirrels attacked each other around me.
It could have possibly been going to class and preaching a sermon about the extreme grace of the Kingdom offered to all who receive it.
Perhaps it was having lunch with my non-friend and being teased endlessly about everything from what I was wearing to where I go to school.
It might have been going to work in a place that is full of people who have fun and enjoy laughter.
It quite possibly could have been the Christmas tunes coming from my co-workers computer next to me in our cubby.
It might have been the fact that shaving creme some how managed to be smeared across the faces of many who attended youth Bible study, including myself.
Maybe it was kneeling in prayer with a group of teenagers telling God that we need him.
Or perhaps it was the cup of hot tea I sipped this evening as I sat and relaxed in front of the TV.
There are a number of reasons that this day was filled to the brim with goodness! I could not knock the smile off my face all day. As I sat wondering why this day was so delightful, I was startled by a realization. This morning, I actually made time for a devotion. I picked up old Oswald Chambers' classic, My Utmost for His Highest and read today's passage. It sits on my nightstand, along with several other devotion books, but very rarely do any of them become a part of my day - especially in the morning.
I am hesitant to affirm that reading a devotion book fits into some formula for having a wonderful day, but I am curious as to how it just might have an affect on my daily perspective. I have been ruined by the legalism of having a quiet time, although I place importance on individual prayer and scripture reading. It must not become such a ridged practice. Spiritual disciplines often trick me up. What exactly are they and how are we to appropriate them in our lives? They are tools used to connect with God and strengthen our faith - right?
Perhaps connecting with God in the early hours of my day made my day more enjoyable. Yes, perhaps this is true. Whatever the reason, I am thankful for the day!
