Running Away
I'm running! It's crazy. I'm running as fast as I can and I feel like I am going nowhere. So, I think I'll run to the city. I will run to New York City and get lost in the crowd. That's the answer for now!
When I get to the city tomorrow night I will be able to walk. Walk everywhere and see everything. No need to run, although there will be people running around me. There will be lots of noise, but in my own world there will be silence. No phone calls that I have to answer. No bills waiting in the mail when I get in at night. No emails demanding that I reply. No getting up early and going to work. No racing to finish a Bible study to teach that night at youth group. Just plenty of silence! I can walk down the street without panicking because I remembered I haven't called back so-and-so nor have I mailed such-and-such because of this-and-that. Just peace. Peace among the chaos of a busy city.
I love NYC! It's one of the few places I can go where I honestly take my eyes off myself and notice other people. There are moments while I am there that I am watching hundreds of people that seem to live more interesting lives than me. Of course, the city is full of people, just like me, trying to figure out what life's all about. Some of them think they have it all figured out and others willingly admit that they have no clue. When I am in the city I see people of all walks of life. It reminds me that I am a part of a much larger world. With Waco, TX a long way away, I gain a different perspective on living. Life is more than my daily routine or my weekly "to do" list. Life is about living in relationship with others and in relationship with God.
My hope and prayer for my trip to NYC is that I will be able to walk with God. There will be no running! He will take my hand and tell me amazing things. Yes, I hope to hear from Him this week. I hope to find the quietness of the city and be still before the Creator. I hope to be reminded of the Lord's amazing love for me and for the people around me.
I must run now! I'm not in the city, yet! And there is much to do before I can leave Waco.

Wow! You're an excellent writer Sarah. I sat down to read just one or two of your posts and ended reading nearly all of them (This one is my favorite). I hope you don't mind Tiffany sharing this with me.
ReplyDeleteYou've inspired me to start my own blog.
